When Jason Momoa turned down the role of Drax, which ultimately went to Dave Bautista, he may have inadvertently launched a blockbuster career for the latter. Bautista quite literally stole some of the thunder in Guardians of the Galaxy for his portrayal of Drax the Destroyer and it may well eventually lead to bigger things for the pro-wrestler turned action star.
With roles now pouring in, including a starring role in the remake of Kickboxer as well as his reprisal of Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, as well as possible roles in the expanded Marvel universe, Bautista could be trading his tights for spandex in the truest sense.
Rumours are now circling that Bautista may have a bigger role in Avengers 3, which could see the Marvel Studios’ franchises come together for an epic ensemble movie. If there is truth to this, then it would likely seem that the pro-wrestler will not have time to lace up his boots and compete in the WWE for a long time to come.
Bautista recently made a return to the WWE but it was a move that quite literally fizzled due to bad booking and shoddy creative decisions for his character, Batista. With a less than memorable time recently spent in the ring, combined with newfound fame in Hollywood, Bautista could be on his way to follow Dwayne Johnson’s footsteps in Hollywood. And it’s a move both WWE fans and Marvel fans will be keeping a keen eye on indeed.
Kickboxer is currently in development and stars Georges St. Pierre, Scott Adkins and Tony Jaa.
