Netflix has assembled a pretty impressive cast for Aaron Sorkin’s new effort, The Trial of the Chicago 7, which will premiere this October. The historical drama tells the story of peaceful protest during the 1968 Democratic National Convention, which turned into a violent clash with the police and National Guard.
The organizers of the protest—including Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden and Bobby Seale—were charged with conspiracy to incite a riot and the trial that followed was one of the most notorious in history.
The Trial of the Chicago 7 stars Sacha Baron Cohen and Jeremy Strong as activists Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II portraying Black Panther Party member Bobby Seale.
The film also sees Joseph Gordon-Levitt portraying prosecutor Richard Schultz with Eddie Redmayne playing Tom Hayden, a renowned veteran of the Free Speech Movement. Michael Keaton and Frank Langella also feature in supporting roles in the film.
The Trial of the Chicago 7 arrives on Netflix on 16 October 2020.
