The world of Pacific Rim will be brought to life in anime form with a new animated series titled, Pacific Rim: The Black at Netflix. The new series expands the universe of the Kaiju-universe, which was brought to life by Legendary Pictures.
Fans of the film series will recall the two films that made up the franchise. However, this new adaptation seems to tweak the storyline of the original film crafted by Guillermo del Toro. According to the official synopsis, Pacific Rim: The Black seems to take place well after the two films.
There was a time when Kaiju rose from the Pacific Rim only to encounter gigantic robots, Jaegers, built to fight them back. That time has passed. Now, Australia has been overrun by Kaiju, forcing the evacuation of an entire continent.
Left behind, teenage siblings Taylor and Hayley embark on a desperate search for their missing parents, teaching themselves to pilot a battered, long-abandoned Jaeger to help in their quest and give them even the slightest hope of surviving.
Pacific Rim: The Black is created by showrunners Craig Kyle and Greg Johnson. The new anime series will debut on the streaming platform on March 4. The new series marks the first of many anime projects Netflix has planned.
Some of the anime projects planned will also spin-off from major film franchises like Tomb Raider and Kong: Skull Island. Check out our report here on what’s in the anime pipeline at Netflix.
