Following in the footsteps of Pirates of the Caribbean, Disney’s Jungle Cruise sees another theme park attraction getting the live-action treatment. Inspired by the famous Disneyland theme park ride, the Disney film is an adventure-filled, Amazon-jungle expedition starring Dwayne Johnson as the charismatic riverboat captain and Emily Blunt as a determined explorer on a research mission.
The trailer reveals quite a bit about the film’s plotline, which revolves around a researcher named Lily Houghton (Blunt) and her brother McGregor (Jack Whitehall) who have to travel to the Amazon to uncover a mystery. The duo engage a riverboat captain (Johnson) to help them with this perilous trek through the South American jungle.
Jaume Collet-Serra directs the film, which to be honest has quite a few throwbacks to the theme park ride. Overall Jungle Cruise looks like a fun ride, which could fill in the void left behind by the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise rather nicely.
Jungle Cruise also stars Edgar Ramirez, Jack Whitehall, with Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti. The film sails into cinemas in July 2020.
