The Chris Hemsworth gritty action film, Extraction, is due to get a sequel at Netflix according to producer/writer Joe Russo. The film, which saw Hemsworth portray a washed out mercenary tasked with rescuing a warlord’s child in Dhaka, Bangladesh, was a refreshing take on an old-school actioner.
The film was a tremendous success for Netflix, which certainly begged a question if Extraction would get a sequel. Now it has been revealed that a follow-up has been greenlit with Russo returning to pen the sequel with director Sam Hargrave set to helm the film. Hemsworth will also return as mercenary-for-hire Tyler Rake.
Speculation though is whether the storyline of Extraction 2 will move forward to backwards. The ending of the first film does leave things hanging, leaving audiences to come to their own conclusions.
Production on the Netflix sequel is due to begin in 2021. Hemsworth currently is readying for his return as the God of Thunder in Thor: Love and Thunder, which is about to begin filming.
