Marina Bay Sands collaborated with The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia to provide a rare opportunity to aspiring film and animation students with an exclusive talk led by the screenwriter and producer of the upcoming Disney animation film, Raya and the Last Dragon.

On 3 March, some 50 attendees invited as part of Marina Bay Sands’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, Sands Cares, got up close and personal with screenwriter Adele Lim and producer Osnat Shurer, who shared about their experience working in the industry and the creative process behind the movie.

The invited attendees were from Nanyang Polytechnic’s Animation and Visual Effects programme, and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts’ Design and Media Programme.

Taking place at Marina Bay Sands’ Hybrid Broadcast Studio, Lim and Shurer joined the session virtually from Los Angeles, and fielded questions from the students about what inspired them and how they overcame challenges in the making of the film.

Wednesday’s event is one of the many ways that Marina Bay Sands gives back to the local community, allowing for unique opportunities where the youth can gain insights into the worlds of film, art and culture through the eyes of experts and celebrities hosted by the IR.

Launched in 2014, the In Conversation With series continues to be a forum where impressionable young adults can gain knowledge and be inspired by leading figures in their respective career fields.

Past speakers who have participated in the series include music artists Jessie J, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Joss Stone; actors Tom Hanks, the late Irrfan Khan, Melissa McCarthy, Dev Patel, Michelle Yeoh and Choi Siwon; as well as film directors Darren Aronofsky, Antoine Fuqua, Shekhar Kapur and Ron Howard. The most recent talk featured Singaporean rap artist Yung Raja.
