It looks like the Sylvester Stallone classic, Cliffhanger is heading for a reboot, this time with a female-led cast. Director, Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night) is set to helm the film, which will be based on the 1993 action-thriller.
The original film told the story of an experience mountain climber who loses a friend tragically while out on a mountain. Several months later as he tries to put his career and past behind him, he becomes embroiled in a high-stakes U.S. Treasury heist gone wrong.
The Cliffhanger reboot is currently being put together by Original Films and Rocket Science. The film will most likely take on a contemporary look and feel. No casting or production details have been released yet but there is a rumour that Jason Momoa is being scouted for a cameo in the film.
The original Cliffhanger was a sizeable hit when it was released in 1993, garnering over USD255 million at the box-office. The film also starred Michael Rooker and John Lithgow.
