HBO’s Boardwalk Empire may have come to an end after five successful seasons but fans may get to see a big screen adaptation sometime down the road. Executive producer of the show, Mark Wahlberg revealed in a recent interview that he is open to putting the critically-acclaimed series on the silver screen and that he also wants Martin Scorsese to helm the project.
“My next goal now is to get the movie made and start talking to Martin Scorsese about directing it,” said Wahlberg. Scorsese is no stranger to the series having directed the pilot episode of Boardwalk Empire in 2010. And it also won’t be the first time Wahlberg would bring a HBO TV series to theatres as he produced Entourage: The Movie, which is set to open in cinemas this June.
As far as Boardwalk Empire goes, series star Steve Buscemi should be the biggest question mark as his character Nucky Thompson was killed off in the final episode. But Wahlberg chimed in stating, “we can always go back”, which could point to flashbacks or even a prequel spin for the movie. Boardwalk Empire ran from 2010-2014 on HBO.
