Bill Pullman and Judd Hirsch will be making their return for Independence Day 2. The duo will be reprising their roles as President Thomas J. Whitmore and Julius Levinson in the sequel which is set to hit cinemas next summer. Director Roland Emmerich made the announcement on his official Twitter account:
It’s official… we’re thrilled to have the GREAT Judd Hirsch grace the set of #IndependenceDay once again!
Today we celebrate our #IndependenceDay sequel. Welcome back, Bill Pullman.
The return of Pullman and Hirsch will undoubtedly please fans of the original film. Emmerich has already secured Vivica Fox, Brent Spiner and Jeff Goldblum to return to the franchise and we can’t wait to catch up with these characters post ID4. Joining these actors are newcomers Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Travis Tope and Joey King in unspecified roles.
Sadly though, the only star that won’t be returning to the franchise is Will Smith. Independence Day 2 is set 20 years after the events of the original film with the earth moving on from the brutal attack that left many cities destroyed.
