The official Avatar Twitter account has released new concept art that shows the setting for Avatar 2. Based on the art pieces, it would seem that the characters of the film have retreated from the jungle to a more beach-like setting.
The new setting may bode well for the new adventure, which will reportedly follow the children of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). Avatar was a mega hit for 20th Century Fox when it was released 12 years ago.
Directed by James Cameron, it broke new ground for 3D filmmaking and it stood at the very top of the box-office as the top grossing movie of all-time before it was usurped by Avengers: Endgame last year.
Still it remains to be seen if there is still a significant fan base behind the franchise that are eager to return to Pandora with these characters. 12 years is a long time in between films and new owners Disney may want to hedge their bets at the box-office to see if Avatar 2 makes a similar-sized killing at the box-office.
Avatar 2 comes to cinemas in December 2021 and also stars Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Kate Winslet, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, Vin Diesel, Cliff Curtis, David Thewlis, and Edie Falco.
