Antonio Banderas headlines this futuristic sci-fi thriller, which has more than a few things in common with I, Robot.
Films featuring artificial intelligence becoming self-aware have more than seen its fair share on the big screen. And the trend doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.
Antonio Banderas’ latest film addresses that same storyline but follows more closely along the lines with Will Smith’s I, Robot. From the first trailer of Automata alone, there are vague similarities with the latter, with Banderas playing an insurance agent with a robotics corporation who investigates cases of robot manipulation.
In the course of his investigations though, he uncovers that robots are more human-like than most are led to believe. This of course leads to an intervention from certain parties who are eager to put an end to this artificial intelligence revolution. Based in the year 2044, Automata is directed by Gabe Ibáñez and stars Melanie Griffith and Dylan McDermott.
