The days of Scrooge and Santa Clause occupying space on the big screen are now over if the ‘holiday’ movie Anna and the Apocalypse is anything to go by. That’s because this Christmas movie is in fact a zombie film that takes place during the holiday season.
A zombie apocalypse threatens the sleepy town of Little Haven – at Christmas – forcing Anna and her friends to fight, slash and sing their way to survival, facing the undead in a desperate race to reach their loved ones. But they soon discover that no one is safe in this new world, and with civilization falling apart around them, the only people they can truly rely on are each other.
Tonality, it seems a bit weird, as Anna and the Apocalypse seems more like a musical than a straight up zombie film. Perhaps director John McPhail was going for a Walking Dead meets Hamilton vibe for this one?
